I learned how to weave this weekend!

Setting the loom is the most tedious task EVER, but once you start actually weaving it goes by very quickly. Which I like. I finished my first scarf pretty quickly (in Diakeito DiaSantaFe) and it turned out really well. I guess rumors of its awesomeness went around HCW like wildfire. I'm not complaining about that, that's for sure. My next scarf is using Katia Colibri, which knits up like absolute rubbish but appears to weave up really well.

I'd talk about the process but it's almost 1am and I have orientation tomorrow morning. That and I still kind of don't know what I'm doing when I weave. I'm debating getting my own table loom, but I don't really have $600 to shell out. So yeah, not happening. I think I'll just mooch off of HCW while I'm here in Austin. If I get serious about weaving I'll consider my own loom.

Between the weaving, knitting and crocheting, and living in a house with three cats, I am well on my way to being an old spinstress/cat lady. I think I'm okay with that.

So out of all of the boxes of books and crap I have, the moving company just had to go and lose my knitting books. I seriously can't believe it. 30+ of my knitting books, pamphlets, and magazines are gone. Now I sit around and wait for the claims adjuster to call me. I guess it's good that I ordered a few new books from Knit Picks during their 40% off sale or I'd have nothing. That and the two crochet books I bought on discount at a local book store. Seriously f*ing sucks.

a noble cowl

I finally did it. I made my own pattern.

a noble cowl, pinned

Finished size:
28cm/11” from cast-on to bind-off edges
Yarn:
Rowan Wool Cotton (50% Merino Wool/50% Cotton; 113m [123yd]/50g): 2 balls. Color shown: SH900.
Needle(s):
4mm(US6) 16” circular needle or dpns.
Notions:
Stitch marker (m), tapestry needle
Gauge:
22 sts/30 rows = 4”/10cm in St st.
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Note: I tend to make cowls large and droopy because I love pinning them. The stitch pattern is in groups of 15 sts, so feel free to cast on less if you want a smaller circumference cowl.

The Austin Whole Foods actually carries slices of vegan cake. Hooray! I'm pretty spoiled with the Whole Foods in Wheaton, because all of the Chicagoland Whole Foods stores have cake from the Chicago Diner. But this one had a piece. So until my kitchen stuff and baking supplies make it to Texas, this is my birthday cake.

Here I am, in Austin, TX. My stuff isn't here yet, so I'm sleeping on a couch. As such it doesn't quite feel like home yet. I'm making strides, though.

While in LR I went to a Hobby Lobby and got a skein of the softest cotton in the world which I used to make this:

reverse-bloom flower washcloth

The pattern is from Weekend Knits, but is also available online at CanadianLiving.com. Very easy, pretty quick. I made most of it while watching a baseball game Wednesday night, and did the rest while watching "The Two Doctors" episode of Doctor Who (Sixth Doctor and Second Doctor). By the way, I think I am in love with Jamie. He may just be my new favorite companion.

Now I'm off to the mega Whole Foods downtown to do some much-needed shopping. And maybe treat myself to something fancy. I mean, it's my birthday, so why not?

First stop: Yarn Mart.

Hi. I'm in Little Rock, AR. Well, Maumelle to be specific, but LR is about two miles away.

Here's a Friday Fill-In:

1. I believe whatever doesn't kill you ... doesn't kill you (duh).

2. If you're good at something, you should never stop working at it.

3. Why so hot? It's just too hot here.

4. Something is out there, it's probably something obvious.

5. If my life were a sitcom, it would be titled How Does She Stay Sane?.

6. Sitting on my back porch [if you don't have one, use your imagination] I see a pool just begging to used.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to some long-overdue knitting, tomorrow my plans include going to the Clinton Presidential Library and Sunday, I want to (hopefully) figure out when my belongings will arrive in Austin!

My stuff is still out there, hanging out in the back of a truck. I really want to get to Austin, but I'm not turning down a free bed and food at my dad's place in Arkansas. So here I hang. I finally found a wireless signal that is unprotected, so I'm back online (yay?). Pretty much all of my knitting is packed, so I haven't been working on anything. I remembered that I brought my second One Skein Wonder with me, so I'm going to finish that up tonight or tomorrow. OH! And there seem to be a few yarn shops in LR, so I may try to find one of them tomorrow. Maybe do some holiday yarn shopping. :D
